Never seem to work out where diets are involved…at least that is my experience. For example: last night my husband and I went to a good friend’s house for brisket (which I normally cannot stand). This may seem very innocent, until I mention that I made the MOST AMAZING black bean dip that was delicious with multigrain chips…. Oops. I have realized that we need to stop looking at our food intake as a diet, because diets always fail. That is why I am so thankful that I have made a lifestyle change. With a healthy lifestyle, I can have chips and dip, or 3 vodka tonics and not feel like the world may be caving in. This is quite a realization for me, since I’ve always beat myself up for “making mistakes” in the past. I was the person that would eat poorly for one meal, and then think that meant that I could pig out for days…the odd thing is that I never really connected this behavior with weight gain. Now that I have been on this journey for over 6 months, I understand that deprivation is NOT GOOD. It leads to binging, feeling sorry for yourself, lack of energy…I am SO very glad that I have a healthier view of the world now.
Here’s the recipe if you are interested:
15 oz. can of black beans, rinsed and drained
1/2 c medium heat salsa
3/4 c sweet onions
1/2 tbsp cumin
6 oz fage 0% plain greek yogurt
…and then: put everything in a blender and blend until smooth! Chill for about 2 hours and serve with veggies, chips or anything that goes well with dip!
