Somedays are more difficult

I normally don’t have an issue getting up at 5 in the morning to exercise…. Okay, so I do whine a little when the alarm goes off-and I even hit snooze occasionally. That being said, I don’t normally have mornings where I get into a “couldn’t today be a rest day” kind of funk. You know what I’m talking about: the alarm goes off, and every single reason you SHOULD NOT get out of bed starts running through your head. So you hit snooze…again, and again and again…until you’ve spend more time sleeping in 10 minute intervals than you have actually spent in deep sleep all night. This morning was one of those mornings. I conquered the little monster in my head who was telling me that hitting snooze was a good idea (the second time the alarm went off). I did get out of bed….
But my little feet were absolutely DRAGGING while I slowly put on my heart rate monitor, sports bra, socks, tights, tank and shoes. With every item that I pulled on the desire to climb back into bed got worse. But, I had a secret weapon taped to my vanity (it’s also taped to my fridge and front door incase I lose my motivation on the way to workout). I found a quote some time ago that always helps me to remember that pain is temporary, and the fruits of our labor CAN be permanent:
“The next time you feel a craving, you’re tempted, discouraged, unmotivated or you feel like skipping a workout, focus on your daily goals, not on the huge amount of work that is ahead of you. Tell yourself , all I have is today! All I have is this moment, this workout, this meal, the next 30 minutes, the next hour. If I just do what I know I must do now, then I KNOW I’ll reach my ultimate goal eventually. Concentrate on the task at hand IN THIS MOMENT.”
-Tom Venuto
That quote reminds me that my waning motivation is TEMPORARY. The good things that I do for my body through nutrition and exercise are permanent (as long as I continue to work hard). I know that there are days that will be more difficult than others, but sometimes it’s those days that are the most valuable. I still needed to get my cup of coffe this morning (normally if I workout I don’t need one), but I also have a sense of accomplishment knowing that I did my planned run and Kettlenetics workout. I think that everyone needs a little push sometimes, and I am thankful that I found the energy and drive to get through my workout. And who knows?? Maybe I’ll have energy later and want to do some Bar Method tonight!
