I wasn’t sure if I actually wanted to post this or not, but I really do believe that this has helped my self-image and given me a little bit of confidence, so here goes nothin’!
I realized a long time ago that in order to be truly healthy, you must take care of your body inside and out. I’ve been doing really well eating nutritious foods and exercising, but I fell off the skin care wagon somewhere along the way. Then my husband said to me: you have such beautiful skin…I wish that you would take better care of it. Ummm…my first reaction was to be upset, hurt and defiant. Then I stopped to think about what he was trying to tell me. When I really thought about it, his statement was his way of telling me that I was doing everything right, but neglecting my face. So I started thinking…I get up at 5am to workout, and I plan my entire day of meals in advance, but I could rarely be bothered to wash my face before bed. In addtion to only washing my face in the shower, I was sweating during my workouts, which always means more breakouts for me. I’ve tried Proactiv, and HATED it. It made my skin SUPER dry-to the point of pain and peeling. So I wasn’t really sure where to start reigning in my acne issues. Then I saw a commercial (as it so happened) for Neutrogena skinID. I was intrigued. I liked the fact that it was a kit (much like Proactiv), but that it was personal. So I talked to hubby and decided that I would give it a try. Here’s my skinID:
I decided that I would give it a month…so I did. And guess what?! My skin cleared up. I can’t use the system as recommended…it did dry my skin out at first, so now I use the cleanser in the morning (during my shower), the moisturizer after showering (and before putting on my other moisturizer), and the treatment before bed (after using a mild facial soap: Philosophy Purity Made Simple). I have not had skin this clear since HIGH SCHOOL. I was one of those lucky people who never had a zit until I turned 18…and since then, I’ve done pretty well…except when I was working on everything besides my appearance. I am happy to say that hubby was very impressed with my results, and I will continue to use the system, because it has kept my face clear (even during my girlie time!!).
Over the last month, having to admit to having skin issues has forced a realization: fitness isn’t just physical, or nutritional…it’s WHOLE BODY. The sooner I start appreciating myself, the healthier I’ll be!
