Okay, so I crave sweets. ALL THE TIME. This is something that I must reconcile. I know that it’s an addiction to the sugar and other ingredients…but it’s just so yummy!! I caved today and actually had REAL (eek! WITH MILK PRODUCTS!) chocolate.
And guess what? I feel AWFUL! My tummy hurts, I’m tired and I really just want to unbutton my pants and take a nap. I’m not even a nap person!! Call me paranoid, but I think that it has something to do with the fact that I’ve completely cut dairy from my diet….I really do feel so much better since doing this, too! I’m reading a book called Eat to Live by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. He endorses a vegan (mainly vegan, actually) diet to promote weight loss down to your body’s ideal weight through a greens and grains diet. His approach also follows some research done by The China Project and other diet/nutrition research. I’m very intruigued…especially after the way that I’m feeling right now. Part of me wonders just how addicted I am to sugar and other “bad” foods. The other part of me really wants to not be deprived. I’m torn. Everytime I eat chocolate, I feel icky…there’s really no other word for it. So here’s what I’m going to do: I’m going to try really hard to abstain from chocolate for the month of May, in fact, I think that I’ll try to stay away from sweets…fruit has sugar, right? I’m curious to see what happens. So here goes nothing (and a HUGE donation to the office candy pool!!

Man, you’re just mean to yourself! Hehe. I am also SO addicted to sugar, though I’ve tried to stop and once I break my cycle, I don’t really miss it too much. I guess listening to your body is the best!
I admire your dedication but personally I think a life w/o chocolate just isn’t worth living. *wink* I stick to dark chocolate most of the time and I prefer higher quality chocolates. I recently discovered Sweet Riot. http://www.sweetriot.com You can get raw cacao from them or chocolate dipped cacao nibs. Pretty tasty and high in antioxidants. I’m not trying to lure you back…honest! lol Best of luck!!!
Oh I just ordered that book! I agree with you that once you abstain from milk, when you do consume even a small amount it really hits you.
There’s plenty of chocolate without milk or animal products in it though – I often find it easier to keep a portion control on as well. Two small squares of dark chocolate eases my craving in no time.
I absolutely LOVE dark chocolate. I’m off to the health food store this weekend to see what I can find!!
