Success!! Perfectly steamed veggies AT WORK!

May 20, 2009

So last night, I decided that I wanted to have some bbq tofu with steamed veggies for lunch. I diligently cut up my zucchini, red bell pepper, and mushrooms. I put them in a tupperware, and filled another tupperware with leftover bbq sauce (recipe follows) and fried tofu (YUM!). THEN, I stuck one thumbnail4of my Orka 12-Ounce Black Silicone Steamers, Set of 2 in my lunch sack so that I wouldn’t have a chance to forget it tomorrow (I have a bad habit of doing that). The steamer held my veggies perfectly, I added a little bit of water and popped the whole thing in the microwave for 4 minutes. AWESOME. While my veggies cooked to steamy perfection, I chowed down on chilled tofu “riblets” (as I like to call them). Love that sauce! Now that you’ve been reading a play-by-play of my lunch, I feel it is necessary to mention that not everyone in my office appreciates the SUPER YUMMY smell of cooking veggies. I figure that since I don’t particularly enjoy smelling their reheated steaks, it’s a fair trade. Besides, I think that they smelled DIVINE! When the microwave dinged, I grabbed my Orka 12-Ounce Black Silicone Steamers, Set of 2 and dumped my veggies into the bbq sauce. What’s better than steamed veggies? Saucy *wink* steamed veggies!! AND it was a good use for the rest of the sauce! YAY for not wasting food!! If you dont’ have a steamer, seriously look into the Orka 12-Ounce Black Silicone Steamers, Set of 2…they ROCK! AND they’re perfect for 1 person.

And…without further ado…here’s my bbq sauce recipe:

INGREDIENTS:

½ c orange juice

½ c organic maple syrup

½ c bbq sauce (whatever you have on hand)

…black pepper to taste…

METHOD:

Whisk everything together, and you have an awesome marinade or sauce. I like mine served over pan-fried (or baked, if I’m feeling SUPER healthy) tofu. Store your leftovers in an airtight container in your fridge.
