I read ALOT. I think that it boils down to wanting to be as knowledgeable about any and all decisions that might effect my life. I honestly don’t think it’s a bad thing. When I started my journey toward health (sorry if you’ve heard this before) it was focused on weight loss and those “last 10 pounds”. And here I am, 10 pounds and all, still focused on health, but more aware and concerned about the ethical treatment of animals and the toxic chemicals that reside in many every-day products. All thanks to reading everything I could get my hands on. I picked up Eat to Live: The Revolutionary Formula for Fast and Sustained Weight Loss when I was still in my weight loss phase. This was, of course after I had already read Skinny Bitch
. Had I read
Eat to Live: The Revolutionary Formula for Fast and Sustained Weight Loss, my outlook may be very different today. I am SO thankful that it’s not. Regardless, this book is one of the main reasons I moved from vegetarian to vegan. There are SO many health benefits, not to mention disease prevention. The book is very easy to read, and very informative. The author is a respected doctor and is very careful about supporting his points and claims with research. He explains why animal foods are harmful without getting grotesque. I was surprised by how easy Eat to Live: The Revolutionary Formula for Fast and Sustained Weight Loss
was to read. Being relatively new the idea of a “vegan” diet, this was a good introduction, and prompted more research. I actually pulled it out the other day just to refresh my memory about my fruit breakfasts (I was rushed on time and didn’t feel like cutting up anything)…incidently, re-reading made me eat my fruit. Check it out yourself and let me know what you think!

Hi Brea, thanks for visiting my blog! I’ll post the recipe on Friday. It’s funny you mention Eat to Live because that is the book that started my exploration of veganism and my interest in a healthier diet in general. I agree with just about everything Dr. Fuhrman says but I think the diet is too restrictive for most people (in an attachment-to-food kind of way). I am sure that if you followed Fuhrman’s diet to the letter, you would be radiantly healthy, but I like the ability to go out to eat without a lot of planning ahead, and to have dessert or pizza once in a while!
I have to agree that the diet is just too restrictive for me. I enjoy eating my veggie muffalattas and vegan ice cream…. Maybe someday I’ll get over my comfort food addiction and venture out into the world of the Dr. Fuhrman diet. Until then, it’s a good read, not at all condescending, AND chalk-full of great information and resources. I can’t wait to get your recipe!! I told hubby about it and he’s dying to try it! It’s probably going to be dinner on friday, in fact!
