2nd place
I am on cloud 9 right now!! I ran my VERY FIRST 10K race, and placed 2nd in my age group!! How awesome is that?! Ish placed 1st in his age group (SO PROUD OF HIM!)
The race was good…until I drank some really cold water and got a horrific side stitch. It HURT! So I alternated walking and running until I finished. I did run the first 3 miles, and couldn’t feel better!! I
finished in 1 hour and 12 minutes, which isn’t my best time, but you know what? I don’t really care! I am SO proud of the fact that I DID IT, and that Ish ran with me. I drank 2 entire bottles of water and had a banana AND an orange. I must have been STARVING!! The orange was really juicy, and I think that I ended up with more on my front than in my mouth! Just as I was cooling down, Ish went to check the times,
and realized that HE AND I BOTH PLACED! HOW AWESOME!! I was so very proud of both of us! I think that getting medals really made the entire 6.2 miles worth it! I don’t think I can honestly remember the last time that I won a medal for sports! Maybe when I was 12 playing rec soccer…. Winning feels great, but cheering on the other runners feels just as good. I was so impressed at the range of ages! There were runners from 14-90! It was a well-attended race (at least the 5K), and the path was BEAUTIFUL! We ran along the water on a levy, and I rocked my tunes on my ipod… Great music, great view, what more can you ask for? SO pretty, AND there was a breeze, which was a GOOD THING!! I even got a tan! If you can’t tell, I’m pretty happy about today!
…I also got to meet up with some AWESOME friends from SparkPeople. These ladies are ones that motivate and encourage me every day. I am SO very blessed to have Lisa, Kristen & Cheryl in my life!
