Road Trip memories

img_0950I’ve spent alot of time thinking about what to write, and I think that I finally have it…the only problem is that I may need to write a vegan road trip survival guide! There is SO much that I learned from our trip. Obviously planning ahead, and packing the ice chest were great ideas…but what about when you leave the car out in the sun for 5 hours while you’re visiting with someone. Or what do you do when you have to stop at a hole-in-the-wall eatery? OR, how do you fit in exercise when you’re in the car for more than 8 hours and can barely move your legs once you arrive? Thankfully, I have (some) solutions. I think that I’ll have to post a few blogs about it, though. Today I’m inclined to write about how I worked out in the car. I brought a weighted ball and resistance band, which allowed me to do bicep curls, tricep raises, shoulder presses and a myriad of other exercises. I used my resistance band for calf presses, bent over rows and quad extensions. I must say that I got some weird looks from the cars that were passing by, but I only gained a pound on the trip (which I attribute to not getting enough cardio). I did try to do my barre exercises while we were in our hotel rooms at night, but there were a few nights that it was 11pm before we got anywhere, and I was just too tired. I did try to walk as much as possible while we weren’t in the car. I know it’s just common sense, but I found it very rewarding to be able to have a vacation AND stay in shape! (it also helped when I wanted those sweet potato fries with my grilled portabella burger!!) So, if you’re traveling, I would recommend investing in AT LEAST resistance bands. It’s SO worth it (and it helps your body to not fall asleep).

  1. AWWWW! You guys look so cute! I bet you would get some funny looks–I would have made a sign that said something smart-assed like, “Hey, at least my butt’s not huge” or some other weird comment to really give them a reason to stare! So much about the weight-loss journey is taking time to plan things and it makes all the difference in the world! I’m sure that pound will fall right off after you get back in the groove of things!

  2. That is a GREAT picture of you guys! :) Can’t wait to see you in a few weeks…I’m so proud that you kept up your exercising! :)
