When we got back from our run this morning, Ish looked at me and asked where I get my protein from. Apparently, he’d been to dinner with some friends from school and the topic of my diet came up (which it always seem to when I’m not there…odd…). Everyone wanted to know how I get enough protein in my diet. I understand the curiosity, and was happy to answer his question. There’s protein in abundance if you know where to look: legumes, veggies, soy, wheat glueten (seitan), pseudograins…they all have a good amount of protein in them. Did you know that pound for pound, BROCCOLI has more protein (and a whole lot less fat!) than steak? I think that’s a pretty good reason to eat my veggies. The truth is, that I get a good amount of protein at every meal. It’s not too hard if you know where to look. One of my favorite grains, quinoa is a complete protein, which means that it has all of the amino acids. AND it’s tasty goodness. Ish was surprised to find that I can get plenty of protein without having tofu 3 times a day….you just have to know where to look!
How do you get your protein?

I learned a long time ago that the only things that don’t have protein are oil, fat and sugar. I get asked that too all the time. Usually with something like, “I could never do without my steaks.” I’m currently on a mission right now to get corporate to quit putting chicken and beef stock in the vegetarian soups.
Brea,
I read Skinny Bitch over the weekend and I’m totally going vegetarian. You’ve read this book, right? Email me
