I went to my very first spinning class today…. It was GREAT! I asked a friend if she would like to try Spinning with me earlier this week, and we decided that Thursday night was the day. I showed up for class, VERY apprehensive, armed with my water bottle and my towel. I quickly learned that spinning is NOT as easy as it looks! First of all…adjusting the height of the bike is a workout in and of itself! Then I discovered that I probably should have had my seat a few notches lower…notes to self for the next class. We went to an “intermediate” class…and I am absolutely TERRIFIED of the “advanced” classes. The intermediate class was 40 minutes, which did end up flying by, what with all the hills and jumps and hovers…I didn’t know that a bike could make my hip flexors hurt!! The instructor completely rocked, and was very good about letting us know when to change our pace. I will say that the saddle was somewhat uncomfortable…my hip bones were hurting every time I sat down! I noticed that one of the regulars brought in a gel seat cover…I’m thinking that needs to go on my Christmas list!! I wore my Heart Rate Monitor to the class, and was REALLY excited to learn that I burned 500 calories! HOORAY for me!! I definitely think that I am going to add Spinning to my routine…now I just have to figure out how to convince my body to get up at 4:30 am!

HEY! I haven’t remembered to come to your page here, and I’m sorry that I haven’t–I missed a give-away!
But, spinning has now taken place of my running routine and I go 3 days a week. The first time I tried it, I had my bike adjusted all wrong (the instructor came in 2 minutes before the class started, jumped on her bike and didn’t even ask if anyone needed help) but the second class I went to, the instructor asked if anyone needed help and I spoke up. After the first class I was sore for a week and a half! So the instructor helped me and I haven’t been sore since. There’s an art to how your bike should be set!
AND, since I’m now going 3 days a week, I just bought my very own pair of spinning shoes and used them for the first time yesterday. They are BRIGHT blue and shiney. I like them for the most part, I think I need to break them in a bit. I got them online and they were WAY cheaper then any store I could find.
I love that they turn the lights down low and I just worry about myself, ride and DRIP with sweat! I love the loud music too!
Doing spinning is one of the reasons I have thought about doing a triathlon–I just don’t have a bike, but I know I could manage it.
How cool!!! Glad you liked it. I’ve only been to one Spin class and had a very very bad experience. I never went back. And now I live in the sticks and no gyms around me do those classes, I’m really bummed I never gave it a second try. Booo for me. Yay for you! And yes, I agree, it really kicks your bum.
