Being sick sucks | …but it’s a great reason to eat your veggies

January 19, 2012

So I’m sick. I’m pretty sure that during the night someone poured cement into my sinuses. It’s entirely possible that my snot-filled head is a detox symptom, and I should probably just suck it up and get a colonic to help clear all the crap out of my system…but I’m a huge sissy and I’m not quite ready for that yet. Of course, it may also improve my mood….

More on cleansing later. I mainly just want to gripe about being sick, stuck with a nose full of snot that won’t let me blow it out. It SUCKS. As in, totally bites. What’s worse? Smalls is sick, too. It completely kills me when he’s having a hard time breathing (and yes, we’ve got the humidifier going at night, are encouraging him to drink lots of fluids…even when most of them end up all over my floor, and Ish taught him to blow his nose…ON ME. Yummy), and there’s nothing I can do about it.

But that’s beside the point. Normally, I would use a head full of cement-like snot to eat horrible, terrible (still vegan) things. Cheesecake, pasta drenched in notch sauce, ice cream…but today, I didn’t crave the crap. Instead, I started my day with a glass of delicious organic, raw ginger kombucha, and then chowed down on raw ‘spanish rice’ for lunch.

HOLY MOTHER, that stuff is good!! I ate half the batch, and it makes enough to feel BOTH Ish and I for two days. It totally rocks. For dinner, I’m making a mushroom risotto from a recipe out of my new favorite cookbook, Ani’s Raw Food Kitchen. YUMMY. So far I’ve just made the sauce…YUM.MY.

I’m going to go stuff my face now on food that will heal me. Wish me luck!

I hope you are feeling better. It seems like no matter where you are in the continental US; we are all sick! So many posts this week about being sick. My household have been sick for a week! My husband and I love munching on raw almonds.
