I woke up yesterday morning feeling like I’d been hit face-first by a Mac Truck. You know the drill…I had a horribly puffy face, scratchy throat, trouble swallowing, plugged sinuses, drippy nose, and a foggy head.
I felt so awful that I (prepare yourself) SKIPPED MY WORKOUT. I know, I know. For a girl who has a Monday through Sunday workout schedule, that’s big news!
I managed to get Smalls off to school with Ish’s help…okay, okay. Ish got Smalls ready and to school since I couldn’t even see straight to make a pot of coffee because my eyes were so puffy.
It was awesomely horrific.
Normally, I would be down for the count. But I don’t like being sidelined so I grabbed my oils. Now, these are the oils that I spent hours researching. I bought e-books about oils, looked for peer-reviewed articles, scientific journals…you name it. I finally settled on Young Living.
I know that I’ve said it before, but I love, love, love my Young Living Oils. I fully expected that I was going to be feeling icky for a few days, but I knew that the sooner I could start oiling, the sooner my body would have back up fighting this bug.
I was shocked by how quickly this worked!! Today, I’m clear-headed, and you’d never know that I felt like, well, poo yesterday. Oils 1, cold 0.
And as I lean more and more toward natural remedies, I’m finding that (at least for me) I don’t get that foggy feeling anymore.
As a mom, if that’s all that going more natural helps with, I’ll take it in spades! If you’ve ever tried to wrangle a toddler (or two) while looped up, I know you are nodding along.
I do not recommend that you just jump haphazardly into a natural lifestyle, tempting though it may be. I did a lot of research, and took a ton of online eCourses, read some of the top essential oil book recommendations out there, and read lots, and lots of reports.
If you’re interested in oils, I would recommend that you do some of your own research, and at the very least, get well-versed in natural remedies.
Kick Being Sick
I started out with 4 drops of lemon Vitality essential oil in a glass water bottle to help soothe my throat. I normally sip lemon water, but I seriously upped my game for this. Plus, it tastes good.
Next, I applied a 50/50 blend of lemon and carrier oil to my lymph nodes, sinuses, and chest. I find that the scent of the lemon helps me to breathe a little easier. I pre-mix my oils to make them easier to apply. If you want to do this, I recommend using these 5ml amber glass roller bottles.
After I’d applied the lemon, I layered a 50/50 blend of lavender and carrier oil, then followed the lavender with a 50/50 blend of peppermint and carrier oil. Peppermint helps to relieve discomfort and encourages a healthy digestive and respiratory system (Seriously!).
I followed my sinus/lymph application with Purification topically on my throat because of it’s soothing quality.
I continued to reapply about every 4 hours for my sinuses and lymph nodes throughout the day. I love that I can use my oils to support my health and wellness.
When I went to pick up Smalls from preschool, one of the moms actually told me that I looked very well rested. I smiled and said thanks. Little did she know!
I also made sure to use my ultrasonic diffuser and Thieves to help support a healthy respiratory system before dinner, and we’re all feeling fantastic. I did continue to reapply three times a day for a few days just to be sure that whatever tried to knock me out was good and gone.
The next time someone you feel any hint of yuck coming on, consider going the natural route. I did, and I feel awesome!
I am so grateful that I have an arsenal of oils in my house, and it all started because I took the plunge and ordered the Premium Starter Kit. The Kit got me hooked with 12 essential oils, a diffuser (my favorite part), and all of those samples.
