Why You Need a Personal Trainer

I love excuses, don’t you? But not today. Nope. Today, I’m meeting my very own personal trainer at the local park. I went a little crazy and booked a personal training session yesterday using a brand new platform called Find Your Trainer.

Not gonna lie. I’m literally terrified. I mean, I have stated that I seriously hate gyms before, and that’s a huge reason I workout at home. I don’t like the super beefed up atmosphere or the trainers that are walking around correcting form.

Sure, I appreciate that I was doing the shoulder press incorrectly (true story), but do you have to get up in my face to tell me that? My experience with personal trainers hasn’t exactly been stellar. But I need to get some expert advice, so I’m taking the plunge.

I know from experience that having someone there to quite literally tell you what to do and how to do it is a wonderful thing, so when I was asked to try out Find My Trainer, I jumped at the chance.

PERSONAL TRAINER
I mean, my DVDs and online workouts aren’t exactly going to scold me if I’m late or complain about not being used. A real life person will.

Finding an at home personal trainer is a bit like finding a babysitter. You need to trust them, which is why Find Your Trainer fully vets all of its members. The trainers can either come to your house, or they’ll meet you at your gym or a local park.

Safety First

Even though my trainer was fully vetted, I wanted to meet in a public place. I’m weird like that.

Luckily, there’s an awesome park just down the street from our house with a playground that the boys love. We got there 30 minutes early so I could get some play time in with them before I couldn’t breathe. I also knew that I’d be able to see my trainer as they arrived, so if they looked sketchy (or I chickened out), we could head home.

Thankfully, that didn’t happen. My trainer arrived on time and didn’t look scary at all. I thought we might be friends. She thought differently.

Cost Savings

Now, I had totally expected that a personal trainer who comes to ME would be way more expensive than at my local gym (which runs around $100 a session). I was so, so wrong. I was able to use the code GETFYT (use it here) when I booked my session and saved $50.00! That brought the cost of my training session to free.

Let me say that again. My trainer came to me. For.Free. Granted, without that code, her fee was $50, which is still half of what I would spend at the local gym. Now, there were other trainers that were slightly more expensive, but the top price that I saw was $80.00 for a session.

On Your Schedule

The beautiful thing about your trainer coming to you is that you set your own schedule. The Find Your Trainer platform helped me book a trainer for the next day, though I could have booked out 2 full weeks. That’s genius!

I’m busy, and I often don’t know what I’ll be doing further than 24 hours in advance. For me, that is a huge plus. I can’t always be there at 4:00 p.m. on a Thursday. This week I could.

And you know what? I can book single sessions or I can book a four-pack with Find Your Trainer. That’s genius!

At Your Level

One thing that frustrates me about personal trainers is that they forget that we all start somewhere. I loved that my personal trainer met me at my level. She didn’t scold me for how horribly out of shape I’ve gotten since I’ve taken a hiatus from derby to let my leg heal.

She actually listened to me when I told her about my broken leg (now healed), and how certain things still aren’t comfortable. She really met me on my level, and I love that.

If you’re thinking of hiring a personal trainer, y’all. This is how to do it. You can check out Find Your Trainer here.
