?I’m going to share something with you. It involves poop, so if you’re squeamish, skip straight to the 2 ingredient DIY cough drops recipe.
2 Ingredient DIY Cough Drops
So. Last night, The Baby woke me up at 3:00 in the morning. “Mom? I poop.” To which I responded, “mmhmm. Go back to bed.” But he didn’t listen. He just stood there. Patiently waiting for me to smell him.
And then I turned on the light.
Y’all. It was a poo-nami. He was literally a walking poop stick. And he smelled like…well…there’s really nothing that compares.
So I got up, quietly ordered him to “stick his hands up and don’t touch a dang thing” and we went to the bathroom where I ran a bath.
I got him stripped down, cleaned up (kind of) and into the tub full of soapy water. I washed him, pulled him out, wrapped him in a towel, cleaned the tub, and ran some clean water. I plopped him back in and went to put the poopy mess in the hamper…
And as I turned on the light, it hit me. THE BABY SHIT THE BED.
There is no nice way to put that, and it makes me giggle a little now, even though at 3:30 in the morning it was less than funny.
So.
I obviously cleaned it up. I’m not a total loss, y’all.
But now I’m up. And it’s apparent that I’m not going back to bed. And I’m mildly freaking out about the flu, sharing germs…being covered in poop. What you normally do too early on a Thursday morning.
Since I knew I was not getting any sleep, I decided to make some DIY cough drops since we were out. And then I realized that I’m probably not the only mom with a child who isn’t feeling well, and since I have this website, maybe I should share.
So here you go (we love these, and they WORK!):
2 Ingredient DIY Cough Drops
Ingredients:
- 3 tablespoons raw honey
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil, measured solid
Directions:
Combine both ingredients in a small pot.
Heat the pot slightly over medium heat and melt the oil and honey together.
The honey mixture will start to bubble, remove from heat and whisk until bubbles/foam recedes slightly. Replace and put back on heat.
Do this for 2.5-3 minutes, whisking every 15 seconds or so.
The mixture will start to change color (dark honey color).
After three minutes, pour the mixture into silicone molds but do not fill them all the way. You want the disks/drops to be very small.
Let cool on the counter for twenty minutes then place in the freezer to set.
Pop the disks out when you need them. They are chilled and soothing but they’re also sticky once melted (almond like a taffy) so try not to chew them too much!
You get about 9-10 disks, depending on the size of your mold, so double the recipe if you want more.
Don’t forget kids under 1 can’t have honey.
