I’ve been working really hard to be healthy…on a budget. Now, there are a lot of things that I can do to save money when it comes to exercise-I can use free workout videos, shop thrift stores for workout clothes and equipment…but what about consumables?
The food we use to fuel our workouts? The soaps, shampoos, lotions…? What about the diapers we put on our kids? Let’s face it, being healthy and being a work at home/stay at home mom isn’t easy. That’s why I shook up our grocery budget a bit over the past few weeks with some of my favorite tools.
Decide How To Budget
Some people make separate lists for “groceries” and “household goods”. There are even moms I know that have an insane amount of categories for every little thing. I just can’t function like that. Yes, I love my lists, but if I can go to the store and grab all the things, I would like them to be in once place on my budget. So in our house, we have “necessities” which include:
- Groceries
- Toiletries
- Diapers
- Rash cream
- Cleaning items (sponges, etc.)
I’m sure I’m forgetting something, but you get the idea.
Make.A.List.
Have you ever gone to the store for “just eggs” and come out with a trunk full of stuff? We all have, I’m sure. I have found that when I go shopping the only way (yes, really) to prevent this is to make (and stick to) a list.
Having everything on ONE list saves my sanity. I can see what I need, and evaluate it as a need versus want. This is huge for me.
Do you ever make a list and think “gee, I’d really like X”…and then you let X sit in the cupboard for months? Me too. This is why it’s all in one place.
Use Ibotta
If you haven’t downloaded this app already, you need to. I’m not a huge fan of coupons, because let’s face it-there aren’t a lot of coupons for fresh fruits and veggies or organic meat…but with Ibotta, I do save quite a bit!
When you’re grocery shopping on a budget, it’s important to be smart. I love the Ibotta app and have been using it for years (yes, really).
Shop Smart
If you want to be healthy and save money, you have to be flexible sometimes. Thankfully, Luvs diapers are on sale right now at my local store, AND I got $5.00 back from Ibotta when I scanned my receipt. You better believe that I am all over that!
I love these diapers because they actually work. The Baby is a wiggly kid, and not every diaper stays in place (you do not want to clean up that mess-trust me!), but Luvs do! I love those crazy repositionable tabs so that The Baby can “help” put his diaper on and I can adjust.
But the best part is their NightLock-I don’t have to buy “special” nighttime diapers anymore. This saves me almost $150 a year! It also saves my sanity because there’s nothing to mess up if Smalls or Ish wants to help change The Baby’s diaper. And he stays dry-which means buying less diaper cream.
I want to make sure that you save as much as possible, too, and it’s so, so easy!
Follow these four simple steps to unlock the Luvs Diapers $5.00 rebate offer through Ibotta:
- Download the free Ibotta app, available on iOS and Android. Search “Luvs” and you will find the offer!
- Buy any 54 pack (or larger) of Luvs diapers at any participating store (most major retailers).
- Verify your purchases by scanning product barcodes and submitting a photo of your receipt.
- Save money and earn cash back! Your $5 cash back rebate will be deposited into your Ibotta account within 48 hours.
