Since Smalls started preschool (and that experience is a post in and of itself!), I’ve been hard-pressed to find quick and easy breakfasts that don’t require stove time and taste yummy. So I’ve turned to smoothies…oatmeal smoothie recipes, specifically. Why oatmeal? Well…
Oatmeal Smoothie Recipes that Will Rock Your World
I’ve found that it helps to pre-freeze your fruit (bananas, strawberries, etc.) so that you can just measure and make a frosty treat when you need it (and if you really don’t have time, consider some of these quick and easy breakfast ideas!).
Why are oatmeal smoothies so good for you?
- Oatmeal keeps you full longer, and at only 130 calories a cup (whole rolled oats, mind you), you can’t really go wrong.
- High in protein and fiber, oatmeal is low in fat…naturally!
- It’s CHEAP to purchase organic oatmeal in bulk. Even at Whole Foods.
- It’s naturally gluten-free (but if you are sensitive, be sure to purchase certified gluten-free oats).
- Oatmeal helps to stabilize your blood sugar.
- It helps protect against heart disease.
- It’s just YUMMY. Isn’t that enough?!
Okay. So we’ve established that oatmeal is good for you. And that I love overnight oats (so does Smalls, but it’s about variety for the littles, right?), but I have been searching for the perfect oatmeal smoothie…and I found 10 recipes (through LOTS of trial and error) that I LOVE.
Almost as much as I love Smalls. Hey! I said almost.
Choco-Banana Oatmeal Smoothie
- 1 cup frozen banana slices
- 1/2 cup chocolate almond milk
- 3 Tablespoons creamy peanut butter
- 1/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1/2 teaspoon cacao powder
- 4-6 ice cubes
Put everything into your blender (ice on top). Blend until very smooth. You CAN make this ahead and either refrigerate overnight or freeze if you like.
Peanut Butter Banana Oatmeal Smoothie
This is a favorite of both Ish and Smalls. Something about the oats and the peanut butter gets them every time.
Blueberries and Cream Oatmeal Smoothies
- 3/4 cup frozen blueberries
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup frozen banana slices
- 1 cup almond milk
- 1/2 cup loosely packed spinach (yes, spinach)
- 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 2 pitted dates
Put everything into your blender (ice on top). Blend until very smooth. You CAN make this ahead and either refrigerate overnight or freeze if you like.
I also make another blueberry oatmeal smoothie that is pretty awesome.
Spiced Oatmeal Smoothie
I like this one for its simplicity. Tasty, filling, and just right.
Banana Oat Smoothie
Another Smalls favorite. That boy just loves his bananas…or maybe it’s just watching the blender mix it all up….
Simple Strawberry Oatmeal Smoothie
- 1 cup frozen, sliced strawberries, or about 12-14 whole
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1 cup almond milk or 1 cup vanilla yogurt (your choice…the yogurt makes more of a shake)
- 1/2 cup frozen banana slices
- 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 2-3 pitted dates OR 1 Tablespoon agave or honey
Put everything into your blender (ice on top). Blend until very smooth. You CAN make this ahead and either refrigerate overnight or freeze if you like.
Blueberry Banana Oatmeal Smoothie
Who doesn’t love blueberries? Add in some bananas and oats and I’m in heaven. This is a fave on days when I feel like I just need a bit of a kick in the pants.
Pumpkin Pie Oatmeal Smoothie
- 1/2 cup almond milk
- 1/4 cup pumpkin puree
- 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt (you can use vanilla yogurt, but don’t add the extract)
- 1/4 cup rolled oats
- 1 Tablespoon pure maple syrup
- 1 1/2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
- 1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 4-6 cup ice cubes
Put everything into your blender (ice on top). Blend until very smooth. You CAN make this ahead and either refrigerate overnight or freeze if you like.
Oatmeal Cookie Smoothie
I should not have to tell you why this smoothie is the bomb dot com…right?
Chocolate Almond Oatmeal Smoothie
Just lots of yum here, too. This one reminds me a little bit of a mounds bar without the coconut, though now that I say that I need to try it with coconut.
What’s your favorite combo?

I started eating steel cut oats but still have old fashion oats in my pantry to use up, and now I know how!! Pinning!
Awesome! Glad I could help. I love steel cut oats.
Wow. These all sound good to me! I never thought of putting oatmeal in a smoothie, and now I have to try one of yours. Thank you for all the ideas!
You’re welcome! They are all delicious!
I love the choco banana oatmeal smoothie! I make that when I’m running short of time.
We love that one, too!!
What great ideas! I have all of the ingredients for most of these so I’ll definitely have to give these a try.
Awesome! Let me know which recipe you decide to start with!
How have I never heard this idea before?! I didn’t know oats stabilize your blood sugar. My girls have been asking for oatmeal for breakfast lately, but I don’t have it on hand in the summer very often because it doesn’t sound good to ME to eat hot oatmeal :). They also love smoothies and I love the idea of adding oats to balance out all the sugar in smoothies. And I’m definitely looking forward to trying out the pumpkin pie smoothie!
Awesome! I love pumpkin pie anything, and that smoothie is amazing! My boys both love oatmeal smoothies 🙂
