Primal Life Organics Dirty Poo Review

I have to say that I’m loving the results that my hair gets from no ‘pooing. Before I jumped on the no ‘poo bandwagon, I had to shampoo every single day, and If I skipped, it was obvious. That being said, since I started no ‘poo, I had been having a similar problem so I decided to make a Primal Life Organics Dirty Poo Review.

Sure my hair looked fabulous after my baking soda/ACV treatment…for about 36 hours. Then it dissolved into greasy yuckiness. And this didn’t seem to be getting better. In fact, it felt like it was getting worse. So I got a little desperate. I started asking questions, LOTS of them.

What I found surprised me!

No ‘poo doesn’t seem to be universal, and likely my transition period to true no ‘poo hair would take quite a  bit longer than I originally thought…some said up to 6 months. Ummmmm…no thank you. I look pretty cute in a ponytail, don’t get me wrong. But 6 months?!

This called for drastic measures.

Oddly, I didn’t even consider going back to traditional ‘poo. Instead, I started to experiment with no ‘poo adjustments, and even alternatives (more on that in a bit). I tried adding more baking soda to the mix. Then I tried reducing the amount of time the ACV sat on my hair.

I tried “dry” shampooing with baking soda. I tried adding even more essential oils to my ‘poo mixture (which actually did help. It let me get away with two days of no ponytail…so I’ll call it a partial win!)

And then I came across Primal Life Organics, thanks to an amazing book, The Skintervention Guide, which teaches you how to take care of your skin using only natural ingredients and cures. I was fascinated…could it really be that easy? In her book, she talks about healing through a primal or paleo lifestyle, and while I’m fascinated, I’m not sure I’m there…yet.

She’s a huge advocate of no ‘poo…and recommended a solution for those who weren’t happy with traditional no ‘poo or traditional skin care, Primal Life Organics Dirty ‘Poo. At first, I was a little scared. After all, Primal Life Organics describes their Dirty ‘Poo as “Dirt.  Sea Kelp. Honey. Herbs.”

Deep breath. I was more than a little skeptical, I’ll admit. I was about to order DIRT to wash my hair with. But I was also ready to try just about anything if it would help my transition away from chemicals and traditional shampoo. Who wouldn’t love to save time in the mornings by not washing their hair every day?!

So I did what any girl would do, I added it to my shopping cart, and checked out. Then I took another deep breath. I resolved that I would not “wash” my hair until I had my Dirty ‘Poo in hand. In what I assumed would be 7-10 days.

That was FAST!

I was completely floored when my shipment of products (yes, I ordered a few other things to try, but that’s another post for another time…say next week!) in just a couple days.

Seriously, folks. Like 4 days. Primal Life Organics rocks their shipping department and considering that everything on the site is made from scratch when you order (read: FRESH!), that’s some serious talent!

As soon as I saw the mail lady put a package into my mailbox, I ran to retrieve it. And hurried inside to open it. I was pleasantly surprised to find that everything was beautifully packaged in a reusable muslin drawstring bag.

I love reusable bags! The very next thing I did? Dumped my baking soda solution and filled my bottle with 2 tablespoons of Dirty ‘Poo and water, then jumped in the shower. I was surprised at how gritty it felt, but it smelled surprisingly good!

So I tried Dirty Poo.

I followed the instructions on the dry powder, massaging the wet mix into my hair and scalp and allowing it to sit for about 2 minutes. I took that time and used the rivulets running down my face to exfoliate because I love multi-tasking!

Once I rinsed, I was immediately met with squeaky clean hair…except at my crown. I could tell it was still a smidge oily (user error, I’m sure), so I washed again.

This time, I came out clean!

After 4 days, I added a tablespoon of baking soda to the mix, as I felt that my hair needed just a bit more of the oil removed. I also remembered to do a quick ACV rinse. After 3 days, I had not had to wear a ponytail. My hair was shiny, happy, and I couldn’t be happier!

The next time I mix, I am going to add in my Rosemary and Lemon. I realized that I miss my essential oils when I don’t use them, so I’ll be sure to post an update about how this effects my Dirty ‘Poo experience.
