How to Lose Weight Naturally

If you’ve been following me for any length of time, you know that I’ve struggled with weight loss..again, and again, and again. And you know what? The only time that I’ve been able to lose the weight and keep if off, there’s been one thing I’ve done: increased my protein intake.

Now, I’m not saying that you should go out and a full rack of ribs 3 times a day (that would just be silly), but you definitely need to be eating protein at every meal. Y’all. I’m going to say that again: every.single.meal.

According to some pretty exciting research being that investigated the diet of 39 adults, all on variable protein diets. After a full month, it was found that the adults who consumed twice the recommended daily allowance of protein lost the most weight.

I find this very interesting, as I’ve found the same thing along my journey. You’ll know you’re hitting the right amount of protein because you’ll feel satiated and satisfied. I used to count calories. And you know what happened? The smallest calories stayed, and things like protein, complex carbs, and other good-for-you-foods stayed. But I never lost much weight and I certainly didn’t keep it off. I wanted my freaking cookies and nut butters!

Let’s Talk Cravings

The secret seems to be in how much protein you consume. Unfortunately, most of us don’t crave a steak when we’re trying to lose weight. We crave chocolate, cookies, muffins…all of those “taboo” foods. Which is why I was thrilled to discover some pretty awesome foods that are high in protein and satisfy those “bad” cravings. It’s like getting your cake and eating it too…or your pancake, anyway.

Remember, when you’re eating to maintain your muscle mass, you need to make sure that you’re eating a healthy, balanced diet. And let’s face it, we ALWAYS want what we can’t have…except you can if you’re smart about it! You absolutely can have pancakes, muffins, nut butters and spreads…as long as you’re smart about it and pick things like Mancakes (which are gluten free and phenomenal) or Flap Jacked for breakfast alongside your eggs.

Or you can use something like my new obsession, vanilla maple almond fluff butter to dip your apple in (or you can just have no shame and eat it right out of the package. I won’t judge.). Like I said it’s about being smart and making better choices.

And thanks to some very creative people, you don’t have to eat a million steaks to make sure you’re hitting the mark!

Are You Getting Enough Protein?

For some of us, this shouldn’t even be an issue…for others (like me), well, it’s a bit more struggle. When you look to “cut things” protein is often on the chopping block, but it definitely shouldn’t be! When you’re trying to get healthy, lose weight, or just clean things up, always, always eliminate these 3 things first:

  1. Refined Sugar
  2. Empty Calories (This means sodas, even diet!)
  3. Fried foods

Then, you have a little more wiggle room. Increase your fruit and veggie intake, along with protein. Now, for a long time, I thought that to get more protein, I had to drink shakes and while they’re still a part of my diet, they are certainly not the center of it.

I love that I can toss in a pouch of fluff butter or even a pre-made pancake and go-I have snacks that are protein packed (and kid-approved…because let’s face it, my kids always ask for some of my snacks!) and easy. No more excuses, and no more vending machines.

I have yet to taste anything from the Protein Pantry that wasn’t absolutely amazing. In fact, I think I may need more Fluffbutter….
