12 Ways to Sneak in More Exercise Today

Let’s face it y’all.

I could use a little more exercise each day. I can totally match that with 3 excuses off the top of my head:

  1. My kids are driving me bonkers!
  2. I walked my son to the bus… that’s enough.
  3. I’m EXHAUSTED!

I wish there were more hours in a day… Is that even possible? Is that a GOOD idea?

Even those of us that do exercise must try and fit it in where we can because we are just too busy to get our entire 30+ minutes in. There is NO need to feel guilty though!  It’s actually surprisingly easy to sneak exercise into your day without needing to schedule it in.

Here are 12 ways to sneak in more exercise today :

sneak in more excercise

Skip happy hour and go for a playdate.

If you typically get together with friends for happy hour, why not enjoy a game of frisbee golf or racquetball instead?  These types of games are a ton of fun, plus you are technically working out.  If that isn’t enough to convince you, it also those cocktail calories easier to justify.

If you’re a mommy like me and want to have a conversation that doesn’t involve “Did you flush the toilet?” and “If I step on a LEGO one more time…”, then invite your fellow mommy friends to a playdate in the park and jog around the playground as the kiddos work out their energy! #MOMWIN

Take the stairs.

Yeah, I know you hear this one a lot, but taking the stairs instead of the elevator is such an easy way to fit exercise into your day.  Similarly, parking further away from your destination is an easy one too.

In my new home, my office is downstairs in the basement so I will definitely be using this one!

Run errands on foot.

If you have errands to do and an hour-long lunch break, why not lace up your sneakers and knock those errands out of the way during your break?  You are getting stuff done while getting your exercise in.

Walk the dog.

If you have a dog, be sure you take the time to take him or her for a walk.  It is important for their health and yours! You can even get the kiddos to ride their bikes and scooters and make it a family affair!

Walk the dog + Spend quality time with kids + sneak in exercise= SUCCESS

Walk to your coworkers.

Seriously, skip the emails and the phone calls.  If they are in the same building (especially if they are on the same floor), walk to them.  Those little trips add up throughout the day.

Schedule in a walk.

During one of your scheduled breaks at work, try to fit in a 10-minute walk.  It will be good exercise and will help refresh your brain.

Typically, so I DON’T explode, I’ll go in my backyard and walk around for a good 15mins, soak in the suns rays, breathe in a little fresh, and get right back to it.

Play with your kids.

Get down on the floor and actually play with your littles.  It is a blast and they will be so happy to have mom or dad playing with them.

Yes, sometimes I leave the dirty dishes so I can play with my kids. IS THAT A CRIME?!?

Trust me… if you could get your snuggles on with my baby, this wouldn’t even be up for discussion!

Clean your house.

Yep, housework can be exercise too.  Sweeping floors, washing windows and even vacuuming are all calorie burning activities.  Plus, it feels good to get it done. I like to hook up my phone to my Bluetooth speaker and turn on my Spotify list.  BONUS: I get to work on my singing voice too…

Plan fun weekend activities.

The weekend is coming soon, what are you going to do?  If you said “I don’t know”, then it’s time to get planning.  Plan an adventure and keep your body moving.  It doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive, but it needs to be more than sitting on the couch watching TV.

Use a stability ball as an office chair.

This may seem silly, but it is more common than you think and you will be working your core throughout the day. I had a feeling my kids would steal this so… I ended up buying TWO stability balls!

Take time to stretch.

If you work sitting at a desk all day, be sure to stand up and stretch once per hour.  You will feel better and your muscles will thank you.

Use a handbasket at the grocery store.

Headed to the grocery store?  Instead of grabbing a pushcart, use a hand basket and get some weight lifting in while you are there. Add different items with different weights to really challenge yourself!

SEE! There are so many different ways to sneak in that exercise for the day. We just have to use our imaginations and really motivate ourselves to reach our goals!

Where and how do you add exercise to your day?
