I’ll admit it…I’m a pumpkin-flavored everything fan.
In fact, as I type this, I’m sitting here drinking at double tall, free-poured, breve, Pumpkin Spice Latte and noshing on a pumpkin scone. Yup.
Score 800 calories for breakfast!
To add to this, I didn’t work out this morning, since Ish had to be AT WORK at 7:00 a.m., and Smalls gets up at 6:30 a.m. every morning (trying to work out with him underfoot is awful. I know that I should push it, but it goes from being an enjoyable workout to incredibly frustrating)! And yes, I could be working out RIGHT NOW, but then I wouldn’t be writing this post, would I?
So. Not surprisingly, the scale moved…up. Not the direction that I want it to be moving, especially going into the holiday season. So I’m issuing a challenge to myself, and to you if you’d like to join me! You also might enjoy these 6 tips for creating a healthy routine as well.
Join Me For The Unprocessed October Challenge
So. Here’s the deal: for the ENTIRE month of October (INCLUDING Halloween!!), my household is going off processed foods. That means that if it’s pre-packaged (think frozen meals and Trader Joe’s Organic Cheese Crackers), we’re not going to eat it. This is an unprocessed food diet per say.
Yes, we’ll consume dairy products, because reasonably, I could go to the farm up the road and buy it from the farmer.
No, we won’t be using processed sugars, although honey and maple syrup will be used as sweeteners.
I’m trying hard to go gluten-free, so we’ll also do our best to eliminate flour, but if Smalls wants pancakes, I’ll make them from scratch using whole wheat or rice flour.
Grains are in, as long as you cook them yourself. Same goes for beans.
NO tofu or processed soy products (those are bad for my hypothyroid anyway)…or other ‘meat substitutes’.
Eggs are great, as are meats if you consume them.
I’m also setting a goal of being 95% organic the entire month. October is a big month for the Farmer’s Market where I live, and I want to support my local organic farms.
AND…Exercise is REQUIRED. EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. No excuses. Even if it’s just 10 minutes at a time, MOVE!
I’m also eliminating chemicals from our medicine cabinet and using my essential oils to treat bumps, bruises, and headaches. …I’m even giving basic EO skincare a shot!
I’ll be posting my progress, recipes, and tips. If you would like to join me on this journey, I’d love to do this as a community!
