While I was in university, I discovered a new tradition, which I quickly adopted. That tradition? Eating pancakes on Shrove Tuesday. You may also know this day as Fat Tuesday (aka Mardis Gras, quite literally in French) or Pancake Day. In my opinion, the best pancakes for Shrove Tuesday are savoury ones, eaten for dinner.
However, we have collected several dozen amazing recipes for you to choose amongst.
Rest assured, religion is not a necessary precursor to an annual pancake day tradition!
When Is Shrove Tuesday?
It is the day before Ash Wednesday. Hmm. That probably doesn’t help very much.
Ash Wednesday is the beginning of the Lent season in several Christian denominations. The preceding day, Shrove Tuesday, is a day of self-examination.
The date of Shrove Tuesday changes each year, falling in the 7th week before Easter.
Why Do We Eat Pancakes on Shrove Tuesday?
