First of all, I want to say THANK YOU to all of my followers, wherever you are. I really, truly appreciate all of your support.
And now…back to Smalls’ food adventures. This week didn’t necessarily go as planned, but it was good nonetheless.
We did introduce watermelon with a mesh feeder to not-so-great reviews. I honestly thought that Smalls would like being able to feed himself, but he wasn’t a huge fan. He’d suck on the watermelon for a few minutes and then throw the feeder on the floor.
I won’t play fetch with a mesh feeder.
I have a strict ‘no retrieval policy’. I know that he needs to learn about gravity, but I do not want to teach him that he can throw food. So if he tosses it, he loses it. He did enjoy the other new food this week: prunes.
He LOVES them. I made a prune puree, and we tried prune juice (as somewhat of a last-measure effort because he needed to be a bit more regular, if you know what I mean) which he was not as fond of.
AND, since Smalls hit the 8 month mark this week, I’m not making his purees as smooth as I have previously. He needs to get used to having some texture in his food, so I’m leaving small chunks, which he’s VERY unsure of.
It’s actually a little comical: I feed him sweet potatoes (which he loves), and he gets all excited, until he takes a bite. Then he makes a face, but eats them, and asks for more. I think it’s just going to take some time.
Tomorrow we’re going to try pureed watermelon to see if he likes that better than the feeder. I also want to make him some peas and carrots (one of my personal favorites), but I forgot to grab carrots at the store! Maybe next week. AND, we’re going to take a trip to the farmer’s market this week. I can’t wait to get some nice SUPER FRESH produce!!
