How To Use The Oils In The Young Living Premium Starter Kit

So you’re thinking about (or have recently purchased) the Young Living Premium Starter Kit. I get it. This is a big step. Huge, in fact. You’re starting a slightly crunchy, totally awesome journey away from the mainstream. You are considering using oils instead of…well, a lot of things!

How To Use The Oils In The Young Living Premium Starter Kit

This website no longer supports selling Young Living essential oils. If you are a fan, great! We have so many essential oil recipes here for you. If you haven’t picked up your essential oils we recommend choosing a set of  Therapeutic Grade essential oils.

But, if you’re like me, you get your kit…and then it sits. Sure, it’s really pretty, but what do you DO with oils?

Ways to use Essential Oils In Home

Don’t waste precious time just letting those oils sit while you try and figure it out. Every day that you don’t use them, you’re missing out on some totally amazing benefits.

How To Use The Oils In The Young Living Premium Starter Kit

While I’m not claiming to be a Young Living Essential Oil expert, I do know a few things from my experiences of using them.

Diffuse Them!

Your new diffuser is awesome. Like, seriously awesome. Regardless of whether you got the Rainstone, Aria, Dewdrop, or Home Diffuser, you are going to love it. Each diffuser comes with its own manual, and I recommend that you read it through before using it for the first time so that you aren’t intimidated.

The manual is the perfect length to enjoy with a cup of coffee….so brew a cup (or pot) and snuggle up for some informative reading.

In a nutshell, make sure you add the proper type of water (some require distilled and some require tap water) to the indicated mark, then add your oils, and turn it on! Simple, seriously.

But when you’re just starting out…it’s kind of trial and error, isn’t it? Unless you have someone who is there to help guide you (which is why my team has a private Facebook Group and Recipe Book for newbies). Wanna join? We’d love to have you!

So…now that you have your Young Living Premium Starter Kit, what can you actually do with it?

So. Many. Things. My favorite? Combinations. I feel like a mad scientist mixing up the combinations, and I love it. My boys often wonder why I throw in a maniacal laugh here and there but it’s really just for show.

My Favorite Young Living Diffuser Combinations

  • 4 drops Lemon + 4 drops Peppermint (can put a little pep in your step)
  • 6 drops Stress Away + 6 drops Peppermint (for when you need the kids to chill, but you need more energy)
  • 5 drops Lavender + 5 drops Stress Away (for sweet dreams)
  • 6 drops Thieves + 5 drops Purification (to help clear the air)
  • 5 drops RC + 4 drops Thieves (to help you survive winter)
  • 4 drops Lemon + 4 drops Lavender + 2 drops Peppermint (I diffuse this combo on the daily!)
  • 4 drops Lemon + 4 drops Frankincense (to lift your mood)

Apply Them!

Another way to use the oils is to use them on your body, topically.

As an example, I use Lavender, diluted 50/50 with a carrier oil to promote a relaxed state of mind. To do this, rather than diffuse, I apply it directly to the bridge of my nose. Total lifesaver during the col days.

I’ve also been known to apply Thieves Oil to the bottoms of my feet to help get myself through the winter months. Lemon and RC are also great for encouraging a healthy respiratory system, and Frankincense is awesome for supporting healthy skin. (You don’t think I get this glow with the use of oils, do ya?)

Oh! Lest I forget-Peppermint is wonderful for supporting healthy digestion.

And mamas? Next time your child has a tantrum, do yourself a favor and put a roller filament on your bottle of Stress Away then swipe it on your wrists. You’re welcome.

A Note About Carrier Oils

The Premium Starter Kit does not come with “carrier” oils. It does come with 11 pure, therapeutic grade essential oils. But in order to use them, you need to dilute them. Now, you can’t just use water to dilute pure essential oils. You need another type of oil. One that will help the essential oils spread.

This is important.

The carrier oils that I personally use on myself and my children are:

This is one step that you cannot overlook.

Ingest Them

Yes, I said ingest, as in eat. I cook with my oils, and I add them to my water in the morning. I’m currently obsessed with a single drop of Lemon Vitality Essential Oil in my glass water bottle. Since there are tons of benefits to drinking lemon water in the mornings, I figured why not use my oils? It saves me squirting myself in the eye trying to juice half a lemon, too.

You can also add 2-3 drops (yes, just 1 or 2) of Peppermint to a pan of brownies for peppermint brownies. 3-4 drops of Lavender in a carafe of lemonade is quite refreshing as well. As you branch out, you’ll find that if you have your typical spices on hand (oregano, thyme, basil, clove, etc.), there are likely oily counterparts that you can use in your recipes as well.

There is seriously no shame in my Essential Oil game. If there is a way to use them, I use them. My boys love them as well. We’re an essential oil family and darn proud of it!

More about essential oils

If you want to learn more about how to safely use essential oils, there are my go-to resources for using oils:

Each of these guides outlines how to use essential oils for different ailments, outlines safe application, and is a wealth of information for the oiling newbie.

While using essential oils is amazing, it’s also extremely important to take the time and educate yourself as well.
